Relationships & Attachment
Relationship & Attachment Issues
The way we connect with others is often shaped by the relationships we experienced early in life. Healing those patterns can change the way you experience relationships today.
You may find yourself repeating relationship patterns you don’t fully understand—becoming anxious when someone pulls away, struggling to trust, feeling disconnected from your emotions, over-functioning for others, or having difficulty knowing what you need.
You may understand your patterns intellectually and still feel unable to change them. That’s because attachment patterns are not simply thoughts; they can be deeply rooted in the nervous system and shaped by earlier experiences of connection, rejection, inconsistency, loss, or feeling unsafe.
I offer attachment-focused, trauma-informed therapy to help you understand these patterns with compassion rather than judgment.
Attachment-Focused EMDR
EMDR can be particularly helpful when relationship struggles are connected to earlier attachment experiences.
Attachment-focused EMDR integrates EMDR with an understanding of attachment and relational trauma. Rather than focusing only on a single traumatic event, we can explore the experiences that shaped beliefs such as:
-
“I’m not enough.”
-
“People will leave me.”
-
“I can’t depend on anyone.”
-
“My needs are too much.”
-
“I have to take care of everyone else.”
-
“It isn’t safe to be vulnerable.”
Together, we work toward processing the experiences behind these beliefs while developing a stronger internal sense of safety, worth, and connection.
